ACADEMICS

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Through its philosophy, admission policies, curriculum, and facilities, Holy Savior Menard strives to create an atmosphere for learning and self-growth. Such an atmosphere provides each student the opportunity to realize his/her potential and to develop the healthy attitudes and responsible behavior that will permit him/her to pursue continued studies and to assume his/her place in society as a concerned Christian adult.

Holy Savior Menard conducts a two-year junior high program. The Holy Savior Menard curriculum is constantly evaluated and revised. In setting up its curriculum, Holy Savior Menard strives to provide educational opportunities that will enhance the growth and development of all its students. Offerings are designed, within budgetary constraints, to permit the student to elect courses that are within his/her range of ability and interest.

In the areas of English, foreign language, mathematics, science, and social studies, courses are available to meet a broad scope of student needs. A fine arts program encourages the student to develop his/her artistic abilities. Computer education, physical education, and religion programs promote the formation of the well-rounded, well-informed inpidual.

PARENTS, AS THE PRIMARY EDUCATORS, HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MAKING SURE THEIR CHILD FULFILLS ALL OF HIS/HER EDUCATIONAL DUTIES.

Academic Records of Students

Holy Savior Menard abides by the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) with respect to the rights of parents, and in the event of divorce, their rights of custodial and noncustodial parents. In the latter case, absence of a court order to the contrary, the school will provide the noncustodial parent access to the academic records and to other school-related information regarding the students. If there is a court order specifying that no information is to be given, it is the responsibility of the custodial parent to provide the school with a copy of the court order.

Academic Support

Holy Savior Menard addresses individual needs of students identified with exceptionalities according to the guidelines for Catholic Schools in the state of Louisiana. Students must have a recent (within three years) professional assessment on file. Classroom teachers through Holy Savior Menard’s Academic Support Program provide modifications for students identified with individual needs that are within the realm of 504 accommodations. HSM offers individualized intervention techniques such as preferential seating, extended time on testing, oral testing, and tutoring. HSM’s Academic Support Program utilizes a school building level committee (SBLC) and, as necessary, the Diocese of Alexandria’s educational diagnostician. Students and parents meet annually with the SBLC to determine the individualized plan for these students. If your child has a type of disability or special condition that you feel might affect his/her performance in school, we urge you to contact the Academic Dean.

Learning Center

The aim of the Academic Support Program is to provide the least restrictive environment in which students can achieve academic success. A Learning Center is available on campus to aid students in achieving their academic goals and to help teachers with providing accommodations. The Learning Center is primarily used for any students who need additional help in understanding their school work. A full time teacher is available to help students with individual needs plans as well as others who may need help with a particular assignment or subject. HSM also has a Title I teacher provided by the Rapides Parish School Board who is available for students one afternoon each week.

Tutoring

National Honor Society provides free tutoring services every morning before school from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. in Rm. 307 on Wednesday; Rm. 407 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
