Holy Savior Menard Central High School History and Principals

Holy Savior Menard Central High School has been a tradition in Alexandria for more than 100 years.  In 1893, Father Leonard Menard and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart opened a boys' school named St. Francis Xavier Commercial College.  Later renamed Menard Memorial High School, it offered a quality Catholic education to area males until 1967 when Menard was united with the area girls' school, Providence Central Academy, to form Holy Savior Menard Central High School at its present location.  In 1988, grades 7 and 8 were added to the school.

Since being named Holy Savior Menard Central High School, the following have served in the position of Principal through the 2004-2005 session:  Fr. Hugh Bigger, Fr. Douglas Hawkins, Fr. Warren Laroque, Sr. Cecile Claire Vanderlick, Sr. Michael Rose Stanzel, Mr. Pat O'Donnell, Mr. Terry J. Mayeux, Mr. Robert L. Mahfouz, Sr. Janez Shonfeld, Sr. Marice' Elvekrog, Sr. Mary Ellen Theriot, Ronald Lemoine, Dale Skinner, and Ronald Roy.  The present co-principals are Paul Erny and Joel Desselle.

For over 40 years, Holy Savior Menard Central High School has served both the Catholic and non-Catholic communities in preparing young people for the future.  In the areas of math, science, history, English, social studies, and the arts, Holy Savior Menard Central High School sets high standards for its students.

The Catholic faith is taught in each grade as a required class.  The New Testament, Old Testament, and traditional family values are some of the areas covered in daily religion classes.  The Mass is celebrated weekly, and each class makes an annual retreat at Maryhill Retreat Center.

Both Catholic and non-Catholic parents looking for the best education for their children, in a safe, challenging atmosphere, should consider Holy Savior Menard Central High School.  It may be the best gift they can give their children.
